Think...positive...thoughts...

Okay after my recent ranting I decided to double post today and be positive. This post will be short, reflecting the duration of my elation.

First off I ran across this nifty wittle wink. Being a fan of open source, Linux, etc., it cheered me up. I also saw this game and upon a quick screenshot glance it looked cool, but I haven't tried it yet so...be warned.

I plan to do more research here soon.

THAT "N" word in Gaming...

I do not know when it became socially acceptable to just go around using such an ugly, foul word at will, but I do know this has become the current second most used derogatory slander next to n00b. Unfortunately the general American black population at large has slowly embraced it's use within their own community to the point it is used in modern day music which the American white youth, and much of the youth abroad, desire to emulate. How can one be a gangsta without using such a word today? I found this article at Wired News interesting.

The problem I have with this word is it's use in gaming. While it may have become socially acceptable and cool to use it in the ways most of the black community choose to, my gaming experience has revealed it to be used with the same vehemence and vitriol that it was popularized (negatively) for in the time of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This word has no place in gaming and companies that provide this PUBLIC avenue of entertainment need to be accountable for ensuring such hate is removed from the environments they provide for public use. In the end, these game companies are the ONLY Police Force in those environments, they ARE the law here, and in my opinion it's time the law started cracking heads.

For the hate mongers out there to be "in the know".

n00b!

The meaning of such a dirty word in GW PvP, and most MMO type games, is actually far from it's roots. Initially such terms as "scrub", "newbie", etc., was used to further marginalize a very green beginner. Now it has come to have a very different meaning and to be truely offensive to some, quite laughable to others. n00b, in most uses I experience, is used to call attention to someone who should know better, probably does know better, and just chooses to be obliviously stupid. The definition of stupid here is someone who has gone from ignorant (those that truely do not understand) to someone who chooses to refuse to follow all logic that exists, including what they DO understand. Examples in GW PvP include those Warriors and Assassins (and to some extent just about any profession) that chooses to rush blindly into the enemy and get flat out pwned. Typically they fully overextend the capabilities of their team to have any ability to function cohesively. Often they pull support roles, like Monks, so far out of reasonable safety they get trashed trying to save these rage-flaming idiots. Does your team "Got n00b"?

Lately...

Random Arena is chock full of.............yes..........n00bs..............how can I get to Terrifying Gladiator if I can't manage 5 pitiful glad points to even reach Mighty Gladiator.

In the mean time I turn to other pursuits like starting a blog to rant about such frivolity and consider absorbing more real life before my subscription expires.
